Jira is a great tool for various reasons. You can customise it the way you want, it is not very expensive, it is easy and simple to use and it has lot of features to suite your needs. In the last decade Jira has established itself as a tool of choice for many organisation. A sparxsys we provide various services to help these companies to get the most out of Atlassian tools, every company is different and they use Jira or other Atlassian tools the way they want but if I have to list one common requirement that they all have then that is reporting.

Native reports are great

Yes, you can create dashboards in Jira and the same time data can be export out of Jira either by using REST API or CSV export. Many people prefer using Excel sheets to create pivot tables. However using Excel along with Jira, although it works but is not massively efficient way and that is why we recommend staying away from Excel as much as you can. It is tempting to use them but it will slow you down.

Confluence is a great option as well. You can use Jira macros to create reports in Confluence which are always real time and you can also export your Confluence pages to PDF as well.

Take your reporting to next level

eazyBI is one such app that we always recommend to create wonderful reports that are dynamic and you can drill down further. We have a free course on eazyBI as well to help you get the most out of it. In this free course you will learn not only the fundamentals of eazyBI but also advanced topics like calculated measures.

We can also help you to get started very quickly. You may already be using Jira or if you are evaluating Jira then you also need to worry about how you would report on data. Reports are crucial because that is how you will come to know about the progress of your projects.

Imagine you are planning for the next 6 months and you have multiple teams that each work in 2 week sprints. Now in the beginning you may want to get an idea on how much it will cost you or simply how many resources you may need. Companies usually plan their work at the Initiative level that is further broken down into Epics then Stories and finally to sub tasks in Jira, when doing high level planning you may just want to focus on Initiatives and later break it down. When you have such situation (which is not uncommon) then you need a powerful mechanism in Jira to report on the original estimated efforts and later compare it with actuals. You can use eazyBI reports to tell you this information.

We at Sparxsys have plenty of experience helping clients get the most out of Jira reports using both native and eazyBI. Reach out to us today and let us discuss your requirements.
