Welcome to another weekly roundup from the Atlassian ecosystem! Whether you’re a Jira admin, Confluence power user, or simply interested in the latest updates, here are the highlights worth knowing this week.
🚨 Confluence Macros to be Deprecated by September 25
Atlassian has announced the deprecation of several Confluence macros that many teams have come to rely on. These macros will continue to work until September 25, after which they will be removed entirely.
Deprecated Macros Include:
- Chart
- Contributor Summary
- Gallery
- Google Drive (Legacy Editor)
- Page Index
- PowerPoint / Excel / Word macros
- Recently Updated Dashboard
- Labels, Spaces List, Span, User List
What Should You Do?
- Use Confluence's macro usage tracking to find where these macros are used.
- Transition to alternatives suggested by Atlassian (e.g., use “Insert Chart” in tables instead of the Chart macro).
- Inform your users and begin replacing critical macros early to avoid broken pages.
Admins, especially, should prioritize identifying high-impact pages and plan their updates accordingly.
🔁 New Feature in Jira: Recurring Tasks for Everyone
A highly anticipated feature is now available in Jira Cloud: Recurring Tasks.
Highlights:
- Any user (with permissions) can set up a recurring task from an existing issue.
- A recurring task is implemented using automation rules behind the scenes.
- Flexible configuration: daily, weekly, weekdays only, or until a specific date.
- Admins can disable or limit the feature from global automation settings.
This new capability makes it easier for teams to automate repetitive planning activities such as:
- Weekly status meetings
- Monthly report generation
- Regular publishing tasks (like video uploads, blogs, etc.)
📅 Atlassian Team '25: What to Expect
The Atlassian Team 2025 event is taking place from April 8–10 in California. While not all of us can attend in person, the good news is online participation is free!
If You’re Not Attending Onsite:
- Register at Atlassian's website and watch sessions remotely.
- Expect major announcements around Jira, Confluence, and cloud roadmap.
There are rumors about potential news around Data Center support—stay tuned for clarity from Atlassian during the event.
🆕 Jira Interface Changes Are Here
Jira Cloud’s new UI continues rolling out and it’s causing some confusion among long-time users.
Why It Matters:
- Many training materials and courses now appear outdated.
- Users must adapt to new navigation and layout.
- Admins and trainers need to re-orient users to ensure a smooth transition.
A video walkthrough is available to help you familiarize yourself with the new experience.
📊 Measuring Success of Your Jira Deployment
A new video explores how teams can evaluate the success or failure of Jira adoption in their organization.
Key questions to ask:
- Are teams actively using Jira as intended?
- Are workflows improving visibility and efficiency?
- Is stakeholder feedback positive or neutral?
This guide helps companies track adoption metrics and understand ROI from Jira.
🧠 Learning Scriptrunner Without Coding?
We recently published a blog post on how to use ScriptRunner to clone issues without writing code. It’s great for:
- Jira admins exploring ScriptRunner for the first time
- Non-developers looking to leverage automation
With built-in post-functions, you can configure logic-based issue cloning (e.g., clone issues only when priority = Critical) without scripting. It's a great entry point before diving into Groovy.
🎯 Final Thoughts
Between macro deprecations, exciting automation features, and UI overhauls, this week in the Atlassian world has been anything but quiet. We recommend:
- Reviewing your Confluence pages for deprecated macros
- Testing the new recurring task feature in Jira
- Registering for Team '25 online sessions
As always, we’ll keep you updated. For deeper dives and walkthroughs, check out our video sessions and subscribe to the newsletter.
Stay productive and see you next week!
