✨ Atlassian Community Gets a Fresh Look

If you haven’t visited community.atlassian.com recently, you’re in for a surprise! Atlassian has refreshed the look and feel of the community portal, making it more intuitive and modern.

Why should you care? Because the Atlassian Community is a goldmine:

  • Ask and answer questions
  • Learn best practices from others
  • Stay updated with product changes
  • Participate in global and local events

Helping others there not only earns you kudos—it also deepens your own understanding. As someone who's spent hours engaging on the platform, I can say it’s one of the best ways to learn Jira from real-world use cases.

🧱 New Hierarchy Views in Jira Projects

Big news for those using Jira Premium! You can now go beyond the standard Epic → Story → Sub-task hierarchy. Premium users can create custom levels such as:

  • Outcome → Capability → Initiative → Epic → Story → Sub-task

Even for standard users, there’s something new:
Under your project’s “Issues” or “Work” tab, there’s now a toggle option to switch between a flat list and hierarchy view. This helps you:

  • Visualize parent-child relationships more easily
  • Create and manage nested issues quickly
  • Work faster without jumping around screens

Just click the three dots on the top right of your issue list and enable "Show hierarchy". Simple, yet powerful.

🔁 'Issues' are now 'Work Items' (Mostly)

Atlassian is gradually replacing the term “Issue” with “Work Item”, a subtle change that reflects a broader effort to:

  • Make Jira terminology more inclusive and flexible
  • Provide clearer feedback on updates and notifications

You’ll now see more specific contextual messages like:

  • “Attachment added to Task”
  • “Commented on a Bug”

While some instances (like personal test environments) may still use “Issues,” most client instances already show this update.

📅 Upcoming Virtual Event: Jira + Xray Testing Deep Dive

Mark your calendar! On April 21st, the Mumbai Atlassian Community is hosting a virtual session focusing on Xray and Jira Snapshots.

Key speakers:

  • Reena Nir – CEO of Red B and creator of multiple Jira apps
  • Deepak Rai – Mumbai ACE Community Leader

Why attend?

  • Learn how to get the most out of your testing setup
  • Engage directly with experts
  • Discover practical tips you can apply right away

This one-hour session is a fantastic opportunity to grow your skills without leaving your desk.

📊 Feature Spotlight: Quick Charts in List View

Project managers, rejoice! You can now generate quick charts right from your Jira list view.

How it works:

  1. Go to the List View in any Jira project.
  2. Click the “View as Chart” button.
  3. Select a field like Issue Type, Status, Assignee, or Priority.
  4. Choose a bar or donut chart for quick insights.

Why this is useful:

  • Instantly visualize how many tasks are open, in progress, or closed
  • Quickly spot workload distribution among team members
  • Focus reporting based on current filters (e.g., "Assigned to me")

It’s simple but incredibly effective for everyday reporting.

🗣️ Final Thoughts
